Friendly Reminder That Mark Davis Is A Weird Dude
After Tuesday’s landmark decision in the Derek Chauvin trial, Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis decided it would be important to put out a statement on the team’s official Twitter account, which is something many other sports teams in America decided to do. Only he completely fucked it and ended up sounding like a tone deaf idiot.
Yeah, it's bad. Like, really bad. It got even worse when Davis told the media that the statement was solely his idea, and defended the statement while also refusing to take it down.
Even though this is pretty bad and Davis looks like a dope in this situation, let me remind everyone that Davis IS a dope and an overall weird guy. This isn’t to defend Davis’s actions, but to shed some light to show he may have had the best intentions in mind.
If you know anything about Davis as a person, you would know that he’s a pretty strange guy. He’s rocked the infamous bowl cut for forever now, wears a fanny pack, drives a minivan from the 90s, still uses a 2003 Nokia phone, and invented a muff style handwarmer in the 80’s with a marketing slogan “Real Men Wear the Muff.”
It’s safe to say that Davis is an irreverent fellow who probably misses the point on a lot of things. Again, I’m not defending the guy’s actions, just pointing out that he’s an oddball who probably had the best intentions.
For more context on Davis’s statement, the Raiders beat reporter for The Athletic, who is a black man, sent out this tweet.
This is someone who works with Davis and knows him personally, so he probably has a good idea that Davis isn’t a racist but rather misunderstood his own actions.
