Waiver Wire Targets Going Into Week 3

We are just 2 weeks deep into the NFL season, but of course we are already seeing transitions in what teams are doing compared to what was predicted in the off season. Not only that, but we are also unfortunately seeing major injuries take place. A very real and unfortunate truth of football and how dangerous it is.

With that, it’s time to look at some possible adds to your fantasy roster heading into Week 3. Typically, waivers will run tomorrow (Wednesdays) of the fantasy week. So today you have your chance to weigh out your options, and decide who you can drop and add to better your team.

Quarterbacks

Jimmy Garoppolo (SF) 7% Rostered – This week Jimmy G “The Handsome One” is really the only quarterback I’m truly interested in the waiver wire game. Due to the season ending ankle injury that took down Trey Lance, Jimmy G now steps back into the QB1 position for the Niners. We all know Jimmy can’t run like Lance can, but Jimmy does bring a better dimension of passing for San Francisco. There are teams out there that had Lance as their QB1 for fantasy, and they’ll need to pick up a replacement. Why not the guy who is going to be throwing the ball on the same team? Last season he finished as the QB17, and I have more faith in him than I do the likes of Cooper Rush or Jared Goff at this point.

Running Backs

Raheem Mostert (MIA) 47% Rostered – Miami put on quite the show on Sunday against the Ravens, and largely in part to Tua and his wide outs. However, I don’t think there is a world where we are going to see 6 passing touchdowns on a weekly basis from Tua. In fact, I would be certain we won’t. So now we look into a backfield that splits carries between Mostert and Chase Edmonds. It’s a close split too. Edmonds was on the field for 36 plays, and Mostert played 39 snaps. While the routes ran was equally as close. Edmonds ran 26 routes to Mostert’s 25. The big thing I’m looking at here though, is that Raheem Mostert had 100% of the goal line carries. Unfortunately he didn’t find the end zone, but he did manage to rack up 51 rushing yards and caught all 3 targets.

Darrel Williams (ARI) 4% Rostered – As an Eno Benjamin owner this stings a bit, but Darrel Williams looked really good on Sunday filling in for James Conner. Conner has a mild ankle sprain and at this time isn’t expected to miss week 3’s match up. But, keep an eye on practice reports throughout the week to see how his body reacts to the injury and work load. Williams finished week 2 as the RB11 with the fill in role, and it seems he has the hotter hand than Benjamin as they nearly played the same amount of snaps. He’s worth a stash, because if Conner continues to get banged up, or miss this week, Williams is a great replacement.

Tyler Allgeier (ATL) 14% Rostered – The rookie for Atlanta isn’t worth starting at the moment but he is an excellent stash for mid to late season. The reason I put him here is because I think there will be a changing in the guards in the backfield at some point. Cordarelle Patterson had been good so far, but I’m not sure he will be able to go this hard and be utilized this much for a whole season being 31 years old. Allgeier did carry the ball the same amount of times on Sunday as Patterson (10), and I fully believe that will slowly increase as time goes by. Like I said, not an instant start pickup, but he is worth stashing for later weeks if you have the roster space.

Wide Receivers

Garrett Wilson (NYJ) 47% Rostered – That percentage is going to hit 99-100% come Wednesday morning, and I don’t think you want to miss out on this one. He is by far and away my number 1 priority right now over any player. Why? After 2 weeks Wilson is sitting at the WR11 overall, and put on a show yesterday in Cleveland. His stat line from yesterday reads as such: 14 targets/8 receptions/102 yards/2 touchdowns. Now, we have to remember that this is with Flacco under center (who also looked great oddly enough). But, as long as Wilson continues to generate targets, and sniff out the end zone he will continue to do great things. He is an immediate start after pickup.

Jahan Dotson (WAS) 52% Rostered – Two weeks in a row I’ve had to throw Dotson on this list. Last week he was sitting at 40% rostered, some people listened, and now we are at 52%. If you listened you liked what you saw out of him: 5 targets/4 receptions/59 yards/1 TD. It seems like Wentz and Washington both like Dotson. Against the Lions he played the most snaps for the Commanders wide receivers (73), and ran the most routes (53). Did I mention after 2 weeks he currently sits as the WR12? ADD HIM.

Jakobi Meyers (NE) 50% Rostered – I think we can all agree that the New England Patriots passing game isn’t going to light up the scoreboard anytime soon. But one thing I want on my roster is a player that is going to generate targets week in and week out. Currently Jakobi Meyers is being looked at as the WR1 for the Patriots, and although that might not mean a ton, he is getting the targets you want to see. In week 2 Meyers was tied for generating the 4th most targets (13) in fantasy football, and came away catching 9 of them for 95 yards. If this is going to be a continuous trend, Meyers could end up being a valuable Flex or WR3 for your fantasy football team.
