Quinn Ewers, the No. 1 overall recruit in the class of 2022 per 247 sports, has decided to skip his senior season at Southlake Carroll in lieu of potential seven-figure NIL deals.

I speak for a lot of college football fans when I say I greatly underestimated the power of Name, Image, and Likeness in modern-day sports. We’re seeing quarterback’s that haven’t played a down of collegiate football nearing $1,000,000 in NIL partnerships, and now an 18-year-old kid yet to graduate from high school is ready to ink a similar deal? Bonkers.

Quinn Ewers is good. Really, really good. He’s one of the most prestigious quarterback recruits of all time and easily the most attractive name in the mix since Trevor Lawrence a few years back, so it’s easy to see why brands want to work with him.

Was this the right move for Ewers personally? To be determined. Is Ewers set for life after he signs an NIL deal? You bet your ass he is.

I fully support Ewer’s decision to leave high school early. BUT… as I said, no one is a sure thing, and neither are the human muscular and skeletal systems. Injuries happen all the time. Of course no one wants to fear the worst for a rising star, but shit happens. By leaving school early Ewers is essentially padding his career with insurance money in case anything goes wrong.

As for whatever brand is lucky enough to sign Ewers, proceed with caution. The NIL era is brand spanking new and no one knows what kind of long-term ramifications there would be if a partnered athlete’s career goes south. All in all, if you were going to take a risk on any 18-year-old prospect, Quinn Ewers is by far your best bet.

This is a kid that’s been receiving Division 1 football offers since Junior High. The expectations on Ewers were so great he literally rearranged his class schedule in order to graduate early and enroll for college football. In other words, Ewers has been expecting/waiting for this since he was 13.

I’m expecting big things from the 6-3, mullet-rocking quarterback at Ohio State. With this news, maybe we’ll be lucky to see him suit up sooner than any expert originally anticipated.
