Patrick Mahomes announced via Twitter that in collaboration with Adidas, he will be releasing his first ever signature shoe titled Mahomes 1 Impact FLX.

Before I get into the actual design of the sneaker, I need to address the fact that Mahomes is no longer JUST the face of the NFL, but he has blossomed into an incredibly successful and vigilant businessman.

Mahomes has partial ownership of the Kansas City Royals, a stake in Sporting KC (the local MLS team), and has even taken his business ventures beyond sports. Mahomes is a member of an investor group responsible for the expansion of fast-food chain Whataburger into states like Missouri and Kansas, and has recently announced an NFT business called “The Museum of Mahomes.” Essentially, Mahomes is doing it all right now, so why not throw in a sneaker deal to the mix?

Professional football players signing signature shoe deals is nowhere near as common as it is in the NBA or even overseas Soccer where we see massive cleat deals with guys like Messi and Ronaldo. This may be a bit strange, but if any current NFL player deserves a shoe deal it is without a doubt Patrick Mahomes.

Now to break down the actual design and colorway of the sneaker. I collect sneakers and would consider myself the resident “sneakerhead” here at GTD Sports, so hopefully that puts at least something towards validating my opinion.

My initial reaction: Yikes. The shoes aren’t horrible, but they sure aren’t pretty. Granted, these shoes are meant to be worn and used while exercising or working out, but in terms of fashion these are a solid no go for me. Now in terms of work-out shoes, these look phenomenal. Plenty of cushion on the sole, a high heel to provide ankle support, and a breathable material.

My absolute favorite part of these has nothing to do with the sneaker itself, rather the logo portrayed on the tongue. I have no idea why but that P and M slapped together in a cool, almost medieval font butters my buns in all the right ways. The shoes look like a drop to me, but anything with that new PM logo is an instant cop.

As I said before, these shoes aren’t horrible especially when you compare them to former NFL signature sneaker deals. Nothing, and I truly mean nothing, will ever be as bad as the Brett Favre signature Nike Air Zoom Turf Jet 97s.

Where do I even begin? The velcro strap is just not the move, they used probably six or seven different unnecessary materials to create an unnecessarily busy pattern, and last but not least what’s with the bubbles on the sole? I understand these are turf shoes but that’s disgusting.

With that being said, Mahomes’s new signature shoe is right in the middle of the pack when comparing them to former NFL star’s shoe deals. Not too ugly, but definitely not something I would want to be photographed outside of a gym.

Regardless of how the sneakers look on foot, Mahomes is absolutely killing it right now and this goes to show he is not only one of the best players in the league, but also one of the best businessmen the NFL has ever seen.
